Normally I don’t do any food posts but I got to try a lot of new foods this week that had me very excited! Ever since I saw the special episode on Cardcaptor Sakura where Spinel Sun and Keroberos were fighting over some takoyaki I’ve been determined to try some when I visit Japan! But obviously if I got the opportunity sooner I’d snatch at it in a heartbeat! Well this week I was picking up the groceries and realized I couldn’t find any Oyster Sauce at my local supermarket (they were out). I remember there was an international food market up the street from from where I worked and went there at lunch to pick some up. I went to the H-Mart and was astounded by the sight! I know it’s a chain that probably many of you have access to, but I’ve never seen such an awesome supermarket before! After I picked up some groceries I visited the food court where I saw it! TAKOYAKI! I immediately purchased it!
My first piece I had cold and it was alright, but it was definitely a lot better after I popped the rest in the microwave for a few seconds. I pretty much got what I expected, it was a doughy/fried piece of octopus. The takoyaki I yearn for in anime/video games tend to be covered in delicious looking toppings like the picture below. HOWEVER now that I’ve found a supermarket where I can buy everything needed for takoyaki I’m determined to make them myself! I’m extremely excited! I’m shopping around for a takoyaki pan, there is one on Amazon that seems alright but the handle might be a bit weak…stay tuned I’ll try and remember to take a picture when I make some!
I also bought a sushi takeout container for lunch, it was VERY DELICIOUS! I think I’ve found my new favorite sushi place! I’m happy it’s so close to work but it’s an inconvenient location to go to with my friends for a big sushi boat at night. The seating arrangements are about as humble/uncomfortable as your average food court. I’m torn between doing takeout and driving the 45 minutes to get it home…or just having us eat there. The main reason I’m leaning towards eating there is because the unagi pieces really taste best when they’re just a bit warm.
In the H-Mart there was a bakery called Tous les Jours that has also COMPLETELY won me over. I’ve definitely eaten a lot more sweets these past two days because I was so excited about trying all of their different fabulous bakery items. I also got to eat another item I’d only seen in anime that I wanted to try someday.
That’s right a chocolate cornet! It was yummy, but I have no idea how anyone could eat one every day for lunch. I also had cheese ball bread (tasted like a Cheez-it Crackers), some Cream Cheese bread thing (ADORED IT!), a Blueberry Cheescake Bread (also awesome), and a Red Bean Bun (didn’t care for it). Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the Red Bean Bun. Apparantly I like Red Bean ice cream but don’t particularly care for it as a pastry filling.

We found a place that has some sweet buns with meat and my aloe drink. It is cool you found some place to eat at, just wish it was close
I miss the sushi place we had across the street from us in Florida.

I’m always a bit suspicious of container sushi. I had too many of those in my college days and they were rarely any good. But of course, the ones at the student store look nothing like the one you had.
Anyway, takoyaki ♥

Haha, it’s funny how anime influences what kind of food we buy. I tried my first takoyaki in Japan, and it was delicious. I was a bit worried that it would taste bad because I’m not particularly fond of octopus, but it was yummy.
