My July Haul

I’m really excited for this haul, it has a few items I was anxiously waiting for. In particular I was happy to get my hands on Toushiro since his release date feels like it was forever ago, and the GEM figures tend to skyrocket in price after they release. Plus I needed Canaan to match my beautiful Alphard! During this haul post I’ll take some pictures of my less expensive items. I’m hoping to give the prize figures a full review at a later point, but for now, just a few quick pics so this post isn’t so boring. The bigger items I’ll do a  full review of at some point soon.

Scarlet Witch (Kotobukiya)

This figure is of Scarlet Witch and she is part of the Marvel Shunya Yamashita Bishoujo Series. This series started out with Rogue who was an immediate pre-order for me, and before I knew it I was collecting most of this series. So far I’ve only passed on two of the series. I passed on the Yelena Belova version of Black Widow and the White version of Phoenix. I like X-Men more than any other Marvel series, but I’m a casual fan. As a child I watched the cartoon tv series whenever I got the chance, in junior high I watched X-Men: Evolution, and I’ve also seen all three movies (I preferred #1 and #2 to the third movie). But my knowledge of X-Men has a lot of gaps, and the Scarlet Witch is one of those characters I don’t know. But despite not knowing her I got her because I liked her appearance and I already had so many of the other figures from the series it seemed a shame to skip one if I liked her appearance. Plus I like how Shunya Yamashita designs heroic looking females.

Dark Saber Maid (Alter)

I took these pictures weeks ago, but I kept getting distracted and not actually posting them. About the time this Saber was announced I had actually promised myself to buy less Saber figures, I even actively sold a few of my Saber figures to cut back. At one point I had found myself pre-ordering  every Saber figure that was announced.  A few multiples of my favorite characters is a great thing, but the amount of Saber figures I was acquiring was too much. So because of that I was really torn over ordering her. OK, well that and the fact that she is more expensive than my average figure purchase (due to her being an exclusive). If she hadn’t been exclusive I would have pre-ordered her without hesitation. But in the end I decided that she was worth it, and that I had already done really well resisting a lot of the Saber figures being announced. Although I still own quite a few figures of Saber still :) I can’t resist her completely (*cough* Saber Lily *cough* Triumphant Excalibur).

Displaying Figures on Bookshelves

When I first started collecting figures on bookshelves I quickly ran into an issue. Each shelf was deep and could allow for 2-3 rows of figures, but you wouldn’t get a good view of the figures in the back rows. The first time I attempted to fix this situation I bought some cardboard building blocks, spray painted them to match the bookcases, and used them so that my figures were displayed in tiers. This worked well but there was the issue of how much work it took to spray paint each block, arranging the blocks in a way that let me utilize all the space, and each block wasn’t as level/flat as I would have liked.

The Kindaichi Case Files Manga Review

THIS is what I’ve been looking for! Lately I’ve taken an interest in horror manga/anime, I’ve been pleased with what I was seeing but I felt like there had to be something better out there for a murder mystery series. The Kindaichi Case Files is one of those “better” series I’ve been looking for, in fact so far it’s the BEST murder series I’ve EVER encountered in any form (that includes manga, anime, books, and regular TV Shows). This series has everything that I was yearning for, humor, intelligent killers, emotional background stories, and revenge! I can’t even begin to tell you how much I enjoy well done tales of vengeance. By the end of each story I was half cheering on for the killer who had been so terribly wronged by their victims in the past.  Although I warn you the manga is currently Out of Print (OOP) outside Japan and although most volumes are easy to track down used on Amazon, there are a few that are difficult to come by at a reasonable price.
